Malifaux

Modern Conquest and War Games

Malifaux is a skirmish-level miniatures wargame created by Wyrd Miniatures in 2009. It simulates gang warfare in the ruins of the city of Malifaux and the wilderness around it, in a setting of Victorian horror and steampunk. Two players each build a team of characters, every one with special powers in addition to ordinary combat and movement. At the start of a game each side is given a random objective, such as assassinating the opposing leader or controlling parts of the map, and the players then alternate activating one of their characters. Instead of dice, the game draws cards from a Fate Deck to produce random numbers, and several mechanics let players manipulate those results. It was designed by Nathan Caroland, Eric Johns and Dan Weber and released at Gen Con in August 2009. A second edition followed in 2013, a third in 2019 and a fourth in 2025, with the publisher releasing many expansions along the way.
