Wide World

Race Games

Wide World is a travel racing board game, listed by Board Game Matcher as a 1956 release for two to six players with sessions of about 45 minutes, published by Parker Brothers and by Toltoys. The players fly around the world to a list of destinations, collecting cargo at each one, and then try to return to their starting point before the other players. Each player is given a set of Destination cards and looks at the first one, then moves a plane toward that location by rolling a die and moving that many places. A roll of six, or landing on a red circle, means drawing a Travel Agent card and following its instructions. The one noteworthy twist is the Weather Overlay, a transparent plastic sheet covering a quarter of the board that now and then moves to a different quarter and instantly carries any planes beneath it along. Early editions of the game did not have the overlay.
