What Were You Thinking?

Party and Word Games

This game is a party board game designed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast in 1998. It is made for four or more players. One player spins a spinner and reads a question from a card of the matching color, and every player writes down the answers they think other players will give most often until a timer runs out. Answers are then read aloud, and anyone whose answer matches another player earns as many points as there are players who gave that same answer. After each round the player with the fewest points moves their piece one square up a penalty track, and a player who reaches the eighth square loses, so play continues until one player remains. It won the Origins Award for Best Abstract Board Game in 1998. Reviewers called it a decent party game, one reviewer adding that it does little to set itself apart from the many other party games. In 2016 its mechanics were reimplemented in the game Hive Mind.
