Terrace (board game)

Displacement and Capture Games

Terrace is an abstract strategy game for two to four players played on a three-dimensional board whose L-shaped levels rise from opposite corners. It was designed by Anton Dresden and Buzz Siler and has been in circulation since 1992, issued by several publishers including Siler Ventures. Each side commands a set of pieces in different sizes that move across the stepped board, and a small T piece matters most. Players try to maneuver so that their T reaches the far corner or captures the opponent's T. Movement depends on height, since pieces travel freely along a level, may step up, and capture by dropping down onto a piece of equal or smaller size. Because every move changes what the next level offers, the game rewards planning several steps ahead, and a session lasts around twenty minutes.
