Star Fleet Battles

Modern Conquest and War Games

Star Fleet Battles is a tactical board wargame set in the Star Fleet Universe, an offshoot of the Star Trek setting. It was originally created in 1979 by Stephen V. Cole and has had four major editions, the current one being Captain's Edition from Amarillo Design Bureau. Players fight ship-to-ship battles using cardboard counters for ships, shuttles, seeking weapons, terrain and information on a hexagonal map, usually commanding a single ship each but sometimes a whole fleet. Instead of the I-Go You-Go turns of most wargames it uses an impulse-based system, where a ship's speed decides how often it moves across a 32 impulse chart. Several players can form teams that share the work of running a squadron or fleet.
