Merc is a modern combat role-playing game published by Fantasy Games Unlimited in 1981. Players take the roles of modern mercenaries engaged in counter-insurgency. The rules cover character creation, specialties such as map expert, medic and escape artist, action success tests, movement, combat and vehicles. The boxed set holds a 36-page book, four cardstock reference sheets, a plastic transparency and dice, and a short sample adventure is set in Rhodesia. It was designed by Paul D. Baader, Lawrence Sangee and Walter Mark, with a cover by Robert Charrette. Fantasy Games Unlimited followed it with the supplement In Country in 1983 and Campaign Book 1: Rhodesia in 1984. Contemporary reviewers found the rules ambiguous but the premise a clear niche.
