Isolation, also published as Isola, is a blocking game designed by Bernd Kienitz in 1972. It is played on a grid board, recorded at 6 by 8 squares in one form and 7 by 7 in another. Each player has a single pawn that can step to any neighbouring cell. After moving, the player places a block on the board, so that the squares available to the opposing pawn gradually disappear. The first player who cannot move loses, which makes the game a race to trap the other pawn while keeping your own free. Good play needs careful counting of the squares each pawn can still reach. The Ludii portal catalogues it as a modern board game of the space and blocking types, and lists similar games such as Amazons and Clobber.
