Fringeworthy is an alternate history role-playing game published by Tri Tac Games in 1982, in which players take characters able to travel to different versions of Earth. It was the first role-playing game to explore the genre of alternate worlds. The game posits that in 2013 a Japanese research team in Antarctica discovers a dimensional gateway left behind by an ancient alien race. The rare people who can use the alien equipment to follow paths called fringes become known as the Fringeworthy, and their travels bring humanity into contact with the Mellor, a genocidal race of shapechangers who become a constant nemesis. Later editions followed in 1984, 1992 and, as a d20 Modern edition, in 2009.
