Feudal is a chess-like abstract strategy board wargame for two to six players, originally published by the 3M Company in 1967 as part of its bookshelf game series and later reissued by Avalon Hill after that company acquired 3M's games division. Each player commands one of six armies, distinguished by shade of blue or brown, made up of thirteen mobile pieces with individually different movement ranges plus a stationary home castle. The board is built from four plastic terrain tiles depicting open ground, rough ground and mountains, and can be arranged differently each game. Players secretly position their own army during a hidden setup phase before play begins, then take turns moving pieces across the modular terrain. Units range from slow-moving royalty, the king, prince and duke, to fast knights and specialized archers. A player wins by either marching a unit into an opponent's castle or by capturing all three of that opponent's royal pieces. A single game typically runs around ninety minutes.
