Drang Nach Osten!

Modern Conquest and War Games

Drang Nach Osten! (Drive to the East!) is a monster board wargame published in 1973 by Game Designers' Workshop that simulates Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. It was designed by Paul R. Banner and Frank Chadwick and was the first game of Europa, a planned series sharing one rule set and map scale to cover the whole Second World War in Europe. The game is played by two players or two teams on five joined maps at 25 kilometres per hex, using more than a thousand counters, and each turn stands for two weeks between 22 June 1941 and 31 March 1942. The Axis side wins by taking every major Soviet city hex before the nineteenth turn ends. The 1984 revision and expansion was published as Fire in the East.
