Caribbean stud poker, also called casino stud poker, is a casino table game whose rules derive from five-card stud poker but whose structure departs from ordinary poker in one fundamental way: players compete against the house rather than against one another, so there is no bluffing, reading of opponents or betting back and forth at the table. Each player and the dealer receive five cards, with one of the dealer's cards shown face up, and players decide whether to fold or raise against the dealer's hand based on that single visible card and their own five-card holding. The game traces its origins to 1982, when professional poker player David Sklansky is credited with devising an early version under the name Casino Poker; the rules were later refined and introduced at the King International Casino in Aruba, giving rise to the Caribbean stud poker name and format now found in casinos worldwide.
