Advanced Heroquest

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Advanced HeroQuest is a dungeon crawler board game set in the Warhammer universe, first published in 1989 and designed by Jervis Johnson for Games Workshop. One to four players take the roles of heroes who explore randomly generated dungeons in search of treasure. It is notable for supporting full solo play and for rules that are more complex than the simple dungeon games it followed: combat is detailed, magic is organised into several colleges of spells, and fate points let a hero undo a mistake. Cooperative play, a modular board and role playing are its key mechanics, and a session takes about two hours. The game has also been issued by other publishers including Diseños Orbitales and Klee.
