Authors, also called The Game of Authors, is an educational card game for three to five players. It was first published in 1861 by G. M. Whipple and A. A. Smith of Salem, Massachusetts, and in 1897 the game was published by Parker Brothers, which was also located in Salem at that time. It is one of the earliest versions of the family of Go Fish games, in which players call on one another to give up a named card. Play uses a specialized deck, and its cards carry the names of famous writers. The authors found in most decks include Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe and Louisa May Alcott, and later decks added further authors to the set.
