World of Warcraft: The Board Game

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

World of Warcraft: The Board Game is an adventure board game that adapts the World of Warcraft online role-playing game to the tabletop. Fantasy Flight Games designed and published it in 2005. Each player takes a character such as a hunter or a warlock and joins either the Alliance or the Horde, then adventures across the continent of Lordaeron, earning experience, new items and new abilities. The goal is to defeat a powerful Overlord. The basic game runs for thirty turns, and if the Overlord still stands at the end, a battle between the two factions settles the result. Play is usually cooperative within a faction, because victory is earned collectively. The box holds more than a thousand tokens, cards and figures, and two expansions, The Shadow of War and The Burning Crusade, add quests, higher character levels and a second board for Outland. Reviewers praised the flavor but criticised the price, the size and the four-hour play time.
