World in Flames is a grand strategy board game that simulates the Second World War across five detailed maps. Board Game Matcher dates it to 1985 and credits Greg Pinder and Harry Rowland as designers. Players command armies, navies and air forces in every theatre from Europe to the Pacific, using more than 1,400 counters that stand for historical units. The page lists it for two to seven players and gives a very long session length of about 6000 minutes, which reflects the scale of a full campaign. Its mechanics include area movement, delayed purchase, dice rolling, hexagon grids, movement points, multiple maps and a ratio-based combat results table, and the game can also be played online through VASSAL.
