Toad in the hole is a pub game in which players throw brass coins, called toads, at a lead-topped table with a hole in the middle. It is a more refined version of the coin-throwing game pitch penny. Four toads are thrown from about the distance used for a dart board at a square toad table with wooden legs. A toad that drops down the hole scores two points and one that lands on the lead top scores one, while a toad that hits the back or falls off is void. A turn can score at most eight points. Scoring follows darts, counting down from 31, and a player must finish exactly or go bust. Tournaments are best of three, with a best of five final. The original league is in East Sussex and a Brighton and Hove league began in 2021.
