Dream Park: The Roleplaying Game

Tabletop Role-Playing Game

Dream Park: The Roleplaying Game is a tabletop role-playing game designed by Mike Pondsmith and published by R. Talsorian Games in 1992, using the company's Basic Role-Playing-derived house system. It adapts the 1981 science fiction novel Dream Park by Larry Niven and Steven Barnes, which follows a murder investigation unfolding inside a televised, live-action role-playing game staged within a holographic amusement park of the future. The tabletop adaptation mirrors that premise: participants create player characters who themselves play a further, in-game character inside the fictional Dream Park setting, layering a game-within-a-game structure onto standard tabletop role-playing mechanics. The result places science fiction worldbuilding and live-action gaming culture directly into a licensed system built around Pondsmith's design work for R. Talsorian, the studio also responsible for Cyberpunk and Mekton.
