Doppelkopf, literally double head and sometimes abbreviated to Doko, is a trick-taking card game for four players. In Germany it is nearly as popular as Skat, especially in the north and the Rhein-Main region, although Schafkopf remains the preferred point-trick game in Bavaria. Like Skat and Bavarian Schafkopf it has a set of official rules, and the German Doppelkopf Association has developed standard rules for tournaments, but informal games are played in many variants with house rules, so players are advised to agree on a specific set of rules before the first game with a new group.
