Conquistador, originally subtitled The Age of Exploration: 1495-1600, is a board game published by Simulations Publications, Inc. in 1976 that simulates the European exploration and colonization of the New World during the sixteenth century. Players take the roles of European powers dispatching expeditions across the Atlantic in search of gold, new territory and colonies to establish. Although the game borrows the visual trappings of board wargames, including a hexagonal map, combat between rival powers is a minor part of play compared with the logistics of exploration, settlement and resource gathering. The design was credited to Richard Berg with assistance from Greg Costikyan, and it was later reissued by Avalon Hill after that company acquired much of SPI's catalog.
