Battle Sheep is an abstract strategy board game from 2010 for two to four players, first released under the name Splits. Players begin by constructing the board from identical four-hex pasture tiles, then each places a tall stack of discs on one of the border hexes. On a turn a player lifts some number of discs from the top of one of their own stacks and moves that new stack as far as it can travel in a straight line, always leaving at least one disc behind. Because every move splits a stack, the board gradually fills up and movement opportunities become scarcer, and the player who occupies the most spaces when play ends wins. A game takes about fifteen minutes and is rated for ages seven and up. The game was created by Francesco Rotta with art credited to Andrea Femerstrand, and was published by Blue Orange among others. It received a Spiel des Jahres Recommended listing in 2014.
