Apocalypse: The Game of Nuclear Devastation

Modern Conquest and War Games

Apocalypse: The Game of Nuclear Devastation is a 1980 board game designed by Mike Hayes, illustrated by Tony Roberts and published by Games Workshop. It was the Games Workshop licensed version of The Warlord, using only half of the original mapboard, which covered Western Europe, and amended rules. The start of the game is decided by random allocation of city starting locations, radiation markers can be cleared by spending an entire turn with armies that neither fight nor move, and the H-Bombs of the original were removed completely. The game earned a dedicated following of its own, although Games Workshop never reissued it. When the licence expired the rights reverted to Mike Hayes, who republished the classic Warlord with the full map in 2012. It uses area majority, area movement and dice rolling.
