Challenge The Yankees

Challenge The Yankees is a baseball board game manufactured by Hasbro, then operating as Hassenfeld Bros. of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and sold only in 1964 and 1965. Roger Franklin and Allen Finkelson conceived the idea during a 1949 summer baseball league and designed the game to let ordinary players challenge the dominant New York Yankees using a roster of All-Star opponents. Each side draws from a deck of twenty five individual New York Yankees player cards and twenty five All-Star cards representing players from other teams, and every card is printed with its own private outcome table, so that rolling the same number on the dice might produce a home run against one card and only a walk against another. Turns proceed over nine innings on a baseball diamond board, with pegs standing in for base runners as players move them around the bases and tally runs. The winner is simply whichever side scores more runs across the full game. The short release window reflects how tightly the game was tied to the Yankees dynasty of its era rather than sold as a lasting product line.
