Mouse Trap is a children's board game first published in 1963 by Ideal Toy Company, notable for its centerpiece Rube Goldberg style mousetrap contraption that players assemble piece by piece over the course of play. Two to four players move mouse shaped tokens around a track by spinning a numbered dial, collecting cheese pieces and adding sections of the trap mechanism as they land on marked spaces, so the trap is only fully built and operational in the closing stages of a game. Once complete, a player can trigger the chain reaction trap, sending a marble down a runway, dropping a ball into a bathtub, releasing a diver and ultimately lowering a cage onto an opposing mouse token, capturing it. The winner is whichever player has not been trapped when the game ends. Mouse Trap combines simple chance driven movement with the novelty of building and firing a working mechanical toy, and it has remained in print through numerous editions and theme variants since its original release.
