Button Men is a two-player dice game invented by James Ernest of Cheapass Games and first released in 1999. Each player represents a fighter identified by a pin-back button between two and two and a half inches across, which specifies the set, quantity and maximum face values of the polyhedral dice that fighter uses along with any special abilities. On a turn a player captures, controls or neutralizes an opponent's dice by comparing rolled values under a set of capture rules, and a match is won by taking three of five rounds. Individual games commonly finish in under ten minutes, though matches can run from ten minutes to three hours depending on the dice sets in play. The design rewards probabilistic reasoning about which button and dice combination is favored against a given opponent.
