Capture go is a simplified variant of the board game Go, created as an introductory tool for teaching the rules and concepts of Go to new players. It is also known as the capture game, first capture go and Atari go, and was first introduced by Yasuda Yasutoshi, an eighth dan professional Go player known for his work teaching the game to children and adults. Capture go follows the ordinary rules of Go, including placing stones on the intersections of a grid and surrounding opposing stones to remove them from the board, but replaces Go's territory based scoring with a simplified win condition: a player wins immediately upon capturing an agreed number of opposing stones, often as few as one. Beginners typically start with single stone capture games and progress to two or three stone versions as their understanding of the game develops, before moving on to full length Go on larger boards.
