Karuba is a tile laying race game designed by Rudiger Dorn and published by HABA in 2015, in which two to four players each guide a set of four explorers across their own private jungle board toward temples holding treasure. On each turn every player draws or is dealt the same randomly ordered numbered path tile and simultaneously places it somewhere on their own board to extend roads leading toward the temples, or discards it instead, which lets any explorer positioned on a matching numbered path space move forward along the roads already built. Because every player works from an identical tile sequence on a private board, the game combines a shared element of chance with real tactical choice about where each player privately builds their own paths and how they use discards to advance their explorers. Players score points for treasures collected and for explorers who reach a temple first, and the game received a nomination for the 2016 Spiel des Jahres.
