Aggravation is a board game for up to four players in its original form, with later editions expanded to accommodate up to six, in which the object is to be the first to move all four of one's playing pieces, traditionally represented by marbles, around the board and into one's own home section. The game's name comes from its central capturing action: landing a piece on a space already occupied by an opponent's piece sends that opponent's piece back to its starting area, an act the game itself calls aggravating. First published in 1962 by BERL Industries and subsequently produced by a succession of companies including the CO-5 Company, Lakeside Industries, Parker Brothers, and eventually Hasbro, with newer editions later issued by Winning Moves, Aggravation belongs to the broader family of cross-and-circle race games related to the Indian game Pachisi and its many regional descendants, distinguished chiefly by its marble pieces and its aggravation-based capture rule rather than by any fundamentally different path or scoring structure.
