Tiyakad, also known as Kadang kadang, is a traditional Filipino racing game played on improvised stilts. In its most common form, competitors strap a pair of bamboo poles fitted with foot rests to their legs and race each other across a set course while balanced on the stilts, testing both balance and speed. A widely played variant swaps the bamboo stilts for coconut shell halves worn like slippers, each tied to the feet with lengths of string that the player pulls taut to keep the shells attached while running, so racers must coordinate the string tension with each stride to avoid losing a shell mid-race. Like many Philippine children's games historically played in neighborhood streets and schoolyards, tiyakad requires no manufactured equipment beyond materials gathered locally, bamboo poles and coconut shells being everyday household items repurposed as racing gear.
