Young World Quiz

Young World Quiz, formally the Hindu Young World Quiz, is a live quiz competition for middle and high school students in India, organized by the newspaper The Hindu as part of its Newspapers in Education initiative. First launched in 2000, it has grown into what is described as the largest live quiz competition for school students in the country. The contest is split into two age based categories, a Junior Quiz for students in classes three through six and a Senior Quiz for students in classes seven through nine, so that questions and difficulty can be matched to the competitors' age. Teams progress through real time rounds at the school and regional level before the strongest teams advance to grand finals staged in various Indian cities. Quizmaster V. V. Ramanan, a columnist for The Hindu and its affiliated publications, has overseen the competition, setting questions that span general knowledge, current affairs and academic subjects. As a recurring annual event tied to a national newspaper rather than a single publisher's product, Young World Quiz sits alongside more conventional tabletop games in this atlas as a live competitive quiz format built around structured team play and elimination rounds.
