Alias (board game)

Alias is a Finnish party board game in which the central objective is for one player to describe a word on a card so that their teammates can guess it correctly, without ever saying the word itself or any of its close derivatives. Published by the Finnish company Nelostuote Oy under its Tactic brand starting in the early 1990s, Alias is played in teams of varying size, which makes it well suited to larger gatherings rather than only small, fixed groups of players. The game has drawn frequent comparison to the American game Taboo, since both rely on describing a target word under a restriction on the words that may be used, but Alias imposes a lighter restriction, forbidding only the word itself and its direct variants rather than a printed list of additional banned terms, which tends to keep rounds faster paced. Alias became one of the best-selling party games in Finland and other Nordic markets after its release and has since been issued in numerous themed and internationally localized editions.
