30 Seconds is a fast-paced, charades-like general knowledge board game created by Calie Esterhuyse and first published in South Africa in 1998. Teams draw cards printed with five words, covering people, places, objects or concepts, and one player has thirty seconds to get their teammates to guess as many of the five words as possible using verbal clues, without saying the word itself or any part of it. Correct guesses let a team advance a token along a board toward the finish line, rewarding both broad general knowledge and quick, creative verbal description under time pressure. The game contains around 2,400 words spread across 240 cards, and has since been translated into multiple languages and published in numerous countries by different licensed publishers, including Calco Games and, in Ireland, Woodland Games Limited. It plays with a minimum of three and up to sixteen players, making it a popular party and family game for larger groups.
