Scattergories is a creative-thinking, category-based party game originally published by Milton Bradley in 1988 and currently produced by Hasbro and Winning Moves Games USA. Two to six players compete over rounds in which a randomly chosen letter and a list of categories are revealed, and each player must write down a word beginning with that letter for every category before time runs out, scoring points for answers no other player has matched. Rounds move quickly, usually taking a little over three minutes to play, and the game is recommended for players aged twelve and up. It builds on the older word game Categories, adding a shared timer, a spinning letter die and a formal scoring system that rewards originality as much as speed.
