Quiddler

Party and Word Games

Quiddler is a card-based word game designed by Marsha J. Falco and first published in 1998 by Set Enterprises, the same company behind the pattern-matching game Set. The game borrows its scoring feel from Scrabble and its hand-management feel from gin rummy: over eight rounds, each player's hand grows from three cards up to ten, and on a turn a player draws from either the face-down deck or the face-up discard pile before laying down one card. A round ends the moment any player arranges every card in their hand into valid English words and discards the remainder, at which point every other player's leftover cards count against them. Points come from the letter values of the cards used in completed words, with bonus points awarded for the single longest word and for whoever formed the most words that round. After all eight rounds, the player with the highest cumulative score wins. Quiddler supports one to eight players and is commonly used both as a family game and informally as a vocabulary-building exercise.
