Outburst (game)

Outburst, subtitled The Game of Verbal Explosions, is a trivia and word-association party game created by Brian Hersch and first released in 1986, later published in further editions by Parker Brothers, Hasbro, and Mattel. Two teams compete to be first to reach sixty points, drawing Topic Cards that each list ten related items, such as things found in a kitchen or famous explorers, without revealing the list to the guessing team. Within a short time limit shown on a sand timer, the guessing team calls out as many matching items as they can think of, scoring a point for every item on the card they name correctly before time runs out. One item on each card is marked for a bonus, awarded only if the team also rolls a matching number on a die. A team may pass on a topic up to three times over the course of the game, which forces the other team to attempt that same skipped topic on their own next turn. The game supports large groups, listing a player range up to ninety-nine, and is recommended for adult players.
