Okisaki shogi is a modern variant of shogi, or Japanese chess, developed by Masayuki Nakayachi around 1996 from suggestions by German chess player Ralph Blockhaus. It is played by two players on a 10 by 10 board, larger than the standard 9 by 9 shogi board, with ten pawns per side, and it introduces a queen piece that moves as in Western chess, while its knights also adopt Western chess movement rules rather than the traditional shogi knight's move, blending Western chess ideas into a shogi framework.
