Judkins shogi

Chess-Family War Games

Judkins shogi is a modern variant of shogi, or Japanese chess, invented by Paul Judkins of Norwich, England, with credit for the design recorded before April 1998, despite following Japanese-style rules rather than being a Japanese-originated game. It is played by two players on a 6 by 6 board, smaller than the standard 9 by 9 shogi board, with each side fielding seven pieces: a king, rook, bishop, gold general, silver general, knight and pawn, giving the variant a compact, faster-playing form of shogi's core capture-and-drop strategy.
