Chromino

Domino and Tile Games

Chromino is a tile-laying board game designed by Louis Abraham and published in 2001 for two to seven players. It reworks the structure of classic dominoes, where matching is normally done by lining up identical numbers of pips, by replacing numeric pips with colored triangular segments arranged on each tile. Players extend a shared layout by placing tiles so that adjoining colored edges match, building outward in multiple directions rather than the single chain typical of traditional dominoes, which adds spatial planning and blocking tactics distinct from its ancestor game. As in dominoes, players draw from a shared pool of tiles when unable to play, and the game rewards recognizing which color combinations remain available as the shared layout grows more constrained. Its family-friendly color-matching mechanic has kept it in print as an accessible entry point to tile-based tabletop games for a wide range of ages.
