Czech draughts

Czech draughts is a board game traditionally played in the regions that once made up Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and it is governed today by the Czech Draughts Federation. Two players face off on an eight by eight board, each starting with twelve draughtsmen on the dark squares of their own side. Pieces move diagonally forward one square at a time, and any piece that reaches the far edge of the board becomes a king able to move diagonally in any direction without that one square limit. Capturing an opponent's piece is mandatory whenever a legal capture is available, which sharpens the tactics considerably. A player loses the game either by losing every piece or by being left with no legal move to make. The game can also end in a draw once neither side can force a capture with perfect play. A misere variant exists in which the normal goal is reversed and a player wins by losing all of their own pieces first.
