American Pool Checkers

American Pool Checkers, also called American Pool, is a variant of checkers played mainly in the mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States and in Puerto Rico, on the same 8 by 8 board used for English draughts. It differs from standard checkers chiefly in its capturing rules: pieces may capture both forward and backward rather than only forward, a capture is mandatory whenever one is available, and kings become flying kings able to jump any number of squares in either direction and change direction mid-capture. A distinctive endgame rule also applies when one player holds three kings against a single opposing king, requiring the stronger side to win within thirteen moves or concede the game as a draw.
