Hornussen

Hornussen is an indigenous Swiss team game played by two sides of sixteen to twenty players who alternate turns striking a small hard puck called a Hornuss, or Nouss, using a long flexible rod, then attempting to deflect the puck out of the air with large paddle-like boards called Schindeln before it lands. The Hornuss can travel at speeds up to around 300 kilometres per hour once struck, and play takes place on a trapezoidal field known as the Ries. The game remains closely associated with rural Swiss communities and is organized through its own national federation and championship structure.
