Hands Down is a board game originally created in 1964 by designers Marvin Glass and Harvey Hank Kramer for the Ideal Toy Company, and later kept in print under Hasbro, Milton Bradley and Pressman Toy Corporation as the game passed between publishers over the years. It is recommended for players aged five and up and combines a card game with a fast reaction element, placing it in the same family as slapping games like Spoons. Instead of grabbing a plain object from the table, players race to slap one of several colored, hand-shaped plastic paddles mounted on a central game unit whenever a matching card is revealed, rewarding speed and attentiveness over strategic depth. The physical, brightly colored equipment and simple slapping mechanic have made Hands Down a recognizable children's party game across several generations of American toy store shelves.
