Laser tag

Laser tag is a recreational shooting activity in which participants carry infrared-emitting light guns and wear or carry sensors that register when they are hit by an opponent's beam, with the aim of tagging designated targets on other players' equipment. The infrared-sensitive signaling devices used to register hits are commonly worn by each player, and in some venues are also built into the arena itself so that structures and obstacles can be tagged as part of play. The concept grew out of light-based tagging systems developed in the years following the release of Star Wars in 1977, with early toy versions appearing before the activity took its now-familiar arena form in the mid-1980s at purpose-built commercial venues. Players in an arena setting typically move through a darkened maze of obstacles and barriers, scoring points for tagging opponents while avoiding being tagged themselves, and the format has since spread from dedicated commercial arenas to portable outdoor sets usable in open spaces. Exact rules, team sizes, and scoring systems vary widely between recreational venues and organized competitive leagues.
