Knucklebones

Knucklebones is an ancient game of dexterity played by throwing up, catching and manipulating a small number of objects, traditionally the astragalus, or ankle bone, of a sheep or goat. The name comes from the ancient Greek version of the game; Herodotus attributed its origin to the Lydians, while Plato credited the Egyptian god Thoth, and archaeological finds of talus bones used in play date back to around 5000 BCE, making the game an ancestor of dice. Players scatter the small pieces, often called jacks in later versions played with metal or plastic pieces, and take turns tossing one piece into the air while picking up others from the table before it lands, progressing through a fixed sequence of increasingly difficult throws, with the first to complete the sequence declared the winner.
