Major League Lacrosse
Professional Leagues
Major League Lacrosse was a professional men's field lacrosse league in the United States, with its first season in 2001. It was the first outdoor professional lacrosse circuit of the modern era, founded by Jake Steinfeld, Dave Morrow and Tim Robertson. Teams played a summertime regular season of ten to sixteen games followed by a four team playoff for the Steinfeld Trophy. Franchises such as the Chesapeake Bayhawks, New York Lizards, Boston Cannons, Philadelphia Barrage and Denver Outlaws developed many of the players who later became national team stars. The league ended after the 2020 season when it merged into the Premier Lacrosse League, and the Boston Cannons carried on in the new league.
