Dennis Conner is an American sailor born September 16, 1942, in San Diego. He won the America's Cup in 1980, 1987 and 1988, but in 1983 lost it 4 to 3 to Australia's wing-keeled Australia II, the first American loss in 132 years, before reclaiming it in 1987 through his Sail America campaign. He also won an Olympic bronze medal in the Tempest class at the 1976 Montreal Games and two Star class World Championships, in 1971 and 1977.
