Gal Fridman is an Israeli windsurfer who competed in the Mistral class and became the first Israeli athlete to win an Olympic gold medal. He won a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics in the Mistral One Design class, making him one of only two Israeli athletes to win two Olympic medals. Fridman was born in Karkur, Israel and lived at the kibbutz of Sdot Yam on the Mediterranean coast, where he trained on the water from a young age. He dedicated his historic 2004 gold medal to the memory of the eleven Israeli athletes killed in the 1972 Munich massacre.
