Torben Grael is a Brazilian sailor born July 22, 1960, in Sao Paulo. He won five Olympic sailing medals in the Star and Soling classes: gold in 1996 Atlanta and 2004 Athens, silver in 1984 Los Angeles, and bronze in 1988 Seoul and 2000 Sydney, tying for the most Olympic sailing medals ever won. He skippered the Swedish team Ericsson 4 to victory in the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race and set a 24-hour monohull distance record of 596.6 nautical miles that October.
