Oscar Pistorius is a South African former sprinter, a double amputee who ran on carbon-fiber prosthetic blades and won multiple Paralympic gold medals before becoming, at the 2012 London Olympics, the first amputee track athlete to compete at an able-bodied Olympic Games. In 2013 he shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home; he was convicted of culpable homicide, later reclassified on appeal to murder, and served a prison sentence before release on parole in 2024, an outcome that ended his athletic career and is recorded here as part of the documented history of the case.
