Edwin Moses

Edwin Corley Moses is an American former track and field athlete born August 31, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio, who specialized in the 400 meter hurdles. He won Olympic gold in the event at the 1976 Montreal and 1984 Los Angeles Games plus bronze at the 1988 Seoul Games, and between 1977 and 1987 he won 107 consecutive finals across 122 consecutive races while setting the world record four times. He shared the 1984 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award with gymnast Mary Lou Retton, became the first chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy in 2000, and helped create the Athletes Trust Fund program ratified in 1981, which let Olympic competitors earn stipends and endorsement income without losing amateur status; he was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1994.
