Gu Li is a Chinese professional Go player born on February 3, 1983, in Chongqing. He turned professional in 1995 at age twelve and became one of the most successful Chinese players of his era, reaching 9 dan. His breakthrough came in 2006 when he won the LG Cup, becoming the youngest Chinese player at that time to take a major international title, and he went on to win the LG Cup again in 2009 along with the Chunlan Cup in 2007 and 2015, the Fujitsu Cup in 2008, the Samsung Cup in 2010 and the BC Card Cup in 2009. Across his career he amassed 51 titles, ranking second among Chinese players by total championships and fifth internationally, and he trained under the legendary player Nie Weiping.
